Eden Morillo
Youth Arts Collective
Senior
Hello, my name is Eden Morillo. I am a Senior at Pacific Grove High School and an artist at the Youth Arts Collective. I have been making art ever since I could pick up a paintbrush. My goal is to create a different and unique style of art heavily based on impressionists like Pierre Bonnard. A goal of mine is to one day open a gallery containing my art along with both my father’s and grandfather’s art.
I prefer to paint with acrylic paint, but I work with other materials such as graphite, charcoal, watercolor, gouache, clay, and pen. I work with acrylic for a couple of reasons. The first is that it dries fast so I can keep layering paint down until the piece is finished. The second is that it has a vibrancy and texture that other paints do not have. I particularly love to create different techniques using paint. I dry brush paint onto my paintings, as well as, unify them by using my colors everywhere. For example, if there is blue on the wall, blue will be everywhere else in the painting.
In the past two years, my focus has been on figures. I have been trying to develop my characters with different emotions. “Daydreaming” is the most recent character I created. I wanted to create an ethereal, dreamy feel to this painting that makes a person want to know more about it. I got the idea for the piece after searching through vintage portraits and renaissance paintings. There is something so compelling about looking at pictures and paintings from hundreds of years ago, it sparks so much creativity. I look forward to creating many more paintings in the future, this is only the beginning.
