My name is Enya Koo, and I am a senior at Trinity Christian High School.
I’ve been around creative people my entire life. My mom is very creative arts-and-crafts wise. I’ve grown up around her making beautiful cards and she’s taught me a lot about paper crafts, sewing, and baking. My dad has built models and done a few paintings, but has an artistic way of thinking. However, my cousin, Rie Thomas, is my biggest inspiration. She’s an artist/graphic designer in Sacramento and small business owner. I have loved her drive to create and passion she has for all things art-related. She motivates me to try new creative styles and to always create when I can.
I create when I feel I can’t do anything else. Most often, when I find myself angry, sad, or stressed, I will find myself ten minutes later with a paint brush or marker in my hand. This past year, as we all know, has not been easy. Mentally, I’ve felt lost and hopeless. I’ve felt pain, sorrow, and grief. I’ve wanted an escape; and I feel that this piece expresses that. Joy can be found in suffering, if we look hard enough for it.
