Isaac Corona

Pacific Grove High School

Senior

My name is Isaac Corona and I am a senior at Pacific Grove High School enrolled in AP Studio 3D Design. To me art is a place where I can escape from reality and be myself. Art has been with me ever since elementary school, when I noticed my connection and interest. In middle school, I learned more about drawing and now I’m investigating techniques and various ways to be creative with clay. My goal is to keep growing as an artist by expanding my knowledge throughout my life.

I like to work with 3D mediums like clay, paper and wire. I feel artists should have no limits to creating art whether it be artistic skill or ability. An artist that I follow on social media named Slew, who posts his unique portraits and murals, inspires me to be creative and individualistic. In my recent works, I have been exploring the imagery relating to mythical cyclops and human skulls. Another recent evolution in my art is to sculpt the form of the human bust. I want to expand on this form in the near future to continue exploring creative interpretations of it.

This current piece is a ceramic bust inspired by my grandfather who recently passed away. I named this piece ‘Flores en el Altar’. This piece also is based on Dia de Los Muertos, because my grandfather passed away the day after the Day of The Dead. My grandfather was a machinist who built engines. He was a man of strength and innovation which I portray in the ceramic form of this sculpture. He meant so much to me; I was very close to him. The flowers represent the respect we pay to lost loved ones and this sculpture honors the life and memory of my grandfather.
