My name is Milo Pennington and I am a Junior at Pacific Grove High, enrolled in AP studios Art and Design. When I was younger I didn't talk much, mainly because I had a speech impediment and most people could not understand what I was saying so drawing became my way of expressing myself and telling a story. I think that's why a lot of my drawings are about scenes because I wanted to describe scenes which illustrate a story. In the future, I hope I will be able to always have time for art as a lifetime hobby and maybe even as an essential part of my career.
This year I have mainly been painting with acrylics on canvas, but I love to explore and experiment with different styles and mediums such as airbrushing and digital art. My favorite thing to paint are scenes that are surreal and sometimes a little goofy.
For the piece that I am submitting, the scene is about the discovery of a giant frog with a pineapple on his head; this is the moment when government agents found it and began documenting their discovery. The piece was inspired by my brother who constantly gives me ideas about what I should paint. Even if this idea started off as a joke, it really stuck with me and I started to experiment with the concept. In this painting, the frog represents something you don't understand or something you're reading too much into. The people in hazmat suits are discovering something they don’t understand. I recommend they embrace the surreal moment and accept the fact that a frog with a pineapple on its head is their reality, at least for today. I hope you enjoy my art.
