I am an international student from Xuzhou, China. My deep relationship with art began ever since I could hold a pen. When I was younger, the printer paper and pens in my mom's office were my best toys. I created my own art world on stacks of white paper. That was my purest joy. When I grew up, I drew to preserve that pure joy I had as a child. All my art is related to my deepest emotions. Instead of painting the present, I am more sensible to paint the memories that shine like pearls in the ocean of my memories. I hope to communicate with my past self through art.
In this painting, I am presenting a small waterfall in my memory of my hometown. That was my happy place. My parents would take my little hand and walk me across a bridge to this waterfall to play. Since I chose to study abroad in the United States, my parents and I only see each other twice a year, which makes me cherish the memories I used to have with them even more. For me, this little waterfall has not only the pleasant sound of water but also the happy laughter of my parents and me. Because it is a memory, I chose to use a palette knife to finish it, thus creating a hazy feeling, just like those wonderful memories that are no longer clear after years of polishing. I hope to use this work to bring my happiness and warmth to the audience, and to prove to everyone that although a camera can record a moment, only art can show emotions and time while showing the scenery.
