My name is Marlene Tinajero and I am a senior at Greenfield High School. I am a person who enjoys living in the present, focusing on things that are right in front of me, and attempting to work through everything little by little. Pacing myself helps me feel less overwhelmed and more alive because there’s a limit to my creativity, but there’s no limit to my emotions. In my mind, to have freedom is to have expression, and it is what I most incorporate in my art.
My preferred medium is acrylic paint, but I am exploring watercolor and markers to further challenge my artistic skill. Working in detail with watercolor helps me take better control of the medium and value of pigments. Markers require patience because of the challenge to blend and create value. Acrylic has helped me create beautiful things and enhance them.
Love is one of the most complicated feelings on this planet, which I respect. It’s almost like art that can’t always be completely understood but is appreciated, felt, and embraced. It can be fragile, and easily broken. It is also one of the most powerful emotions. My piece is about how strong our own love is, yet how it can be easily punctured in the hands of others. My prime focus is to create pieces that bring an idea, a concept, or a feeling to life. This resonates with my idea of freedom, and the love that must be present in order to achieve freedom within oneself.
