Santa Catalina School

Senior

I am a Santa Catalina School senior and am currently enrolled as a student in the Studio Art Seminar with my teacher, Ms. Claire Lerner. Creating artwork serves as a form of self-expression and self-reflection for me as a visual art student. I aspire to continue to create more artwork in the future that expresses my thoughts and ideas and inspires others to do the same.

I like to paint with acrylic paint on wood panel. I enjoy working with acrylic paint and slow drying painting mediums in particular, because it allows me to carefully layer and build up colors that add more depth to my paintings. All of my current art pieces all center on the theme of childhood nostalgia. I aim to show this with a mix of painting techniques, rich and vibrant colors combined with muted and desaturated colors. I hope to reveal the “out of focus” feeling that many may feel when we do not remember something as vibrantly. I want my piece to reveal some of myself and inspire the viewer to reflect on themselves and how their memories helped shape them.

Creating my fifteen piece portfolio centering around my childhood memories has really allowed me to reflect on my past and what has shaped me into who I am today. While my paintings mainly have sentimental meaning to me, I hope that the imagery evokes a sense of nostalgia in the viewer and invite them to learn more about their past.
