I dedicate this artwork and song to my grandmother. Although the joys of having you present with me are gone, you will forever have a special place in my heart, and in the afterlife too. The moment and expression she holds in the painting is the same that I still have of her as my final memory. She was saying goodbye, without me knowing it would be the last. In order to better understand and immerse oneself with the artwork, it is highly recommended one listens to La Barca De Oro. A song by notorious Spanish vocalist group Mocedades. I believe the song speaks about death, and it can be dedicated to all of our beloved family members that have passed away, or even a break-up. I do not wish to picture death as an evil entity, rather a neutral being that simply connects us from the bridge of life to the incomprehensible far beyond. The “undiscovered country” as Shakespeare calls it. When I first listened to the song, this is the image that came up to my head, and in order to keep the purity of the visualization, I decided to use no reference images.
