I am from Salinas, CA and a 12th grader at Rancho San Juan High School. I am currently taking Art AP. This is my second time taking an art class, I have taken art 1-2 prior to this course. I first got inspired to start creating art when I was around 7 years old. I really liked cartoons and illustrated books, especially Raina Telgemeier's work. I am often creating art inspired for my love of those books from my childhood, which is also the reason for my theme, which is "Self discovery throughout adolescence". With this theme I am currently focused on developing color theory, symbolism in art, while also showcasing the feeling of growing older. As for this piece I am inspired by my Nana's refrigerator, growing up she always has had pictures of us plastered onto it, from newborn to graduation pictures. Just like a fresh canvas, refrigerators can also be used to showcase meaningful images. I hope to inspire more people to take pride in their messy fridges and embrace the canvas in front of them.
