Madeline Pulido, Las Primas, acrylic, $550

My goal as an artist is to create something meaningful to myself that tells people about my life growing up. I want my work to reach out to others who share the same background that I do.

I created “Las Primas” to display nostalgia, to remind myself and others of the bonds we create as children. Whether through shared memories or simple companionship, this artwork immortalizes the deep, unspoken ties between cousins.

My piece that is titled “Las Primas” is an acrylic painting that shows my cousin and I sitting together as we wait to celebrate my birthday. In regards to why I painted this, I always wanted my artwork to mean something. I want my work to represent my life and the love I have for my family and culture.
