Let Go, acrylic Kayla LopezGreenfield High School | Senior My name is Kayla Denice Lopez. I am 17 years old, and I am a senior at Greenfield High School. The reason I make the work I do is because it is my unique way of being free to create something beautiful and to create something bigger than myself. I like to challenge myself to create the impossible and/or to create something difficult as a way of getting out of my comfort zone and exceeding my standards. Some goals as an artist are to challenge me a lot more and to continue to make art that represents me as a person and as an artist. I prefer to work with acrylic paint and charcoal pencils. I paint with acrylic because it is easier to use than watercolor paint. I enjoy eye themes and broken themes. I love to draw eyes because they express any emotion the person is feeling. Eyes are my way of expressing what I am feeling whether it’s joy or sadness, pain or anger, I want to show what I feel to get my message across. My current work that I have been doing has been all something good and positive. I want people to feel joy and positivity after looking at my work. The idea came to me multiple times in the past, and I never had the opportunity to paint. It relates to my everyday life whether it is being at home or with people. The painting is showing hands releasing butterflies into the sky. It is a visual representation of myself letting go of things that hurt me, mentally and emotionally. I hope that the painting I submit brings hope for others, to let go of the things hurting them and chaining them down, when they can be free.
