My work mostly focuses on the whimsical nature of life and the carefree feel of my fictional creatures that exist only in my mind. Paleoart (art of dinosaurs & other prehistoric animals) is one of my biggest inspirations when it comes to creating these creatures. I want to represent animals in a light that not many people see. In my art I want to show how animals, like reptiles, are not creatures that should be feared, but instead loved and respected. I always loved to draw these animals and I will continue to do so, for as long as I can.
The sculpture I made is one character that I tend to draw a lot. His name is Kyle and I imagine him to be an easygoing, cheerful guy. He enjoys relaxing by the beach and eating fruit right off the branch. I typically only really paint with watercolors or gouache, but I thought that sculpture fit best for this idea. He took me weeks of hard work to sculpt him out of pottery clay. Then after firing, I painted him with acrylic, then sprayed a clear coat on him. His “hair” was the most difficult part of him to make, it refused to stay in one piece, so I ended up making the part separated until the very end, where I just glued them all together. The piece is entitled “Kyle”, fittingly. For what he is exactly, he is an anthropomorphic, yellow, lizard. He is specifically based on an iguana and the Great Jagras from the video game “Monster Hunter”. I also reference anatomy from a variety of theropod dinosaurs.
