My name is Hailie Bringas, and I am a senior at Seaside High School. My aspirations as an artist are to improve my painting technique, as well as get better at composition and make art that is visually appealing to me. I’ve been painting for six years now, and I’m still learning as I go. Hopefully, I can pass down my knowledge onto someone else.

The material I usually prefer is acrylic, since it’s the medium I’m most comfortable with, and the technique was just a usual wet on wet. The process itself is usually a hit or miss, based on instinctual experience that I’ve picked up over the years. I also decided to experiment with a slight paper craft to make the overall piece look appealing and to make the artwork “pop” more.

The current artwork I’ve been making is inspired by space-western settings that I came up with alongside a close friend. My submission piece is just a prime example of what I’ve been exploring. This concept indeed changed over time from my original intention, but the outcome is more appealing than what I had imagined beforehand. You may be wondering why the subject is uncolored, well it’s simple. I decided that the best choice was to leave the figure uncolored because not only does it help the character pop out with the contrasted and saturated colors behind him. Also I think it’s best to leave some pieces unfinished and untouched, as a reminder that not everything needs to be professionally colored; to look visually appealing or interesting to other people’s satisfaction.
