From a young age, I have had an innate desire to express my thoughts and feelings through art. Art, in its many forms, is practiced by most cultures and can be regarded as one of the defining characteristics of the human species. In all societies today, the visual and performing arts are intimately intertwined with music, dance, rituals, symbolism, and language. With that said, I plan to attend a university after high school to pursue a degree in Sociology, continuing my passion for art, while exploring the societal dimensions of art.

As someone who seeks to dive deeper into my artistic practice, I love using a variety of mediums — my current focus on ceramics and painting. I am currently enrolled in two art classes at North County High School: Ceramics I and Drawing & Painting I. Experimenting with different textures and color palettes has allowed me to emphasize patterns and rhythm in my work.

This piece was inspired by a sketch I drew when visiting the beautiful country of El Salvador this past November. As the smallest country in Central America, the city's streets of Suchitoto were adorned with vibrant murals and the communities filled with love. I was captivated by the artwork, telling stories of history and culture. I observed that life is beautiful, yet fragile. It is easy to be overwhelmed with negativity and blinded by what we see in the media, distracting us from the beauty and awe of everyday life. Walking the streets of Suchitoto showed me the virtue of experience. As I passed by brightly colored homes, I saw children celebrating the simplicity of life. I left overwhelmed with a robust feeling of inner peace and wanted to capture this vivid memory on canvas.
