Forgotten people and Japanese culture are the inspiration for my work. The Forgotten are those who have passed away and forgotten after the passage of time. Their place may become haunted, perhaps because the person can’t rest. Maybe she has unfinished business, regret, or the place she has cared about is now abandoned. That is what this lady represents and the mountain represents a forgotten place that she tries to care for, even though she can’t do anything to it. However, I want everyone to give their own meaning to this piece. I want the viewer to place themselves in the lady’s position. How would they feel? What would they do? No one knows what comes after death. Everyone has different beliefs. Perhaps it is judgment, or the void, or regret, or reincarnation, or scientific logic. If so then why do ghosts and souls exist? I know that those are not from imagination. That is the subject of this painting: the Forgotten and the name Kami (神) meaning God.
I started by brainstorming this idea. I completed the work from the top to the bottom: the sky, the mountain, the land, and lastly the sea. I then created the bridge and the woman in the painting. I then cleaned the painting as much as possible.
