My name is Ashley and I’m a senior at Everett Alvarez High School. Art holds a huge place in my heart and it does many things for me. It became my passion and a drive to keep going in life. Art also became a reliable stress reliever.

I would have a lot of pent up emotions in different points of my life and art was always the way that I could express my negative feelings. The painting I created was a form of me venting to help relieve my emotions. I titled my artwork as “A Broken Lady”, due to the feeling of being broken and fractured from life’s difficulties. I picked a statue-like figure because I enjoy the aesthetic of a broken statue and it helps to express the feeling of being fractured from constant challenges as well. The vines represent the feeling of being trapped with negativity, twisting and turning to surround you. The different shades of gray were used due to how gloomy the color was and how many see the color grey as depressing. I used a warm yellow because I thought it would make the art pop and add contrast when next to the monochromatic grays.
