After years of experimenting with different media/styles of art, I have developed an affinity for lettering. Currently, most of the pages in my sketchbooks are lavished with lettering concepts and practices. I enjoy working with ink, colored pencil, and acrylic paints. I believe around 95% of my art is faith-based. As a Christian who loves lettering, having the Bible to pull quotes from- to share with others, makes me love doing art all the more.
The piece I am submitting for this show is close to my heart. When I was sketching ideas for this blank wooden panel, I had drawn a really dark image, based on the thought's I've been having, and things I was feeling. Something felt off about it. I realized that I wanted to be free from all of those negative thoughts and feelings. I drew a version of myself at complete peace over the previous sketch. One of the most surreal feelings of peace I've experienced is the wind blowing at my face in complete silence, in the middle of nowhere; away from people, away from the things I have to do. The lettering on this piece is inspired by what I've been praying for... Freedom from what goes on in my head, wanting a breath of life, and to live each day with purpose and peace of mind and heart - and I know these can only come from God. I hope that my art for this show allows others to know that peace will come and there is hope, even amidst the darkest of times.
