Kaelin Navarro, Lying in Wait, oil pastel, $100

My piece is about the weight of expectations and how it can be difficult to keep yourself above the surface when you can't measure up to what people want of you. It can mean that sinking to the bottom can feel terrifying when we feel like we don't have what it takes to go after our dreams. It's to show that if we keep persevering and never give up on our dreams, we can stay afloat. This cycle of always staying at the bottom of the water can feel endless, but we must rise up and make it to the surface. In time, waiting for the water to be still and the murkiness to clear, we can see how far we've actually come.
