Karla Cardenas, Don't Hide, acrylic, $150

Many people have insecurities; it’s just a natural thing humans do. However, most of the time, I don’t hear many males talking about their insecurities. So in my painting, I tried to deliver a safe, reassuring message to males, and anyone in general, that it’s okay to admit how they feel. I titled this painting Don’t Hide because I don’t think anyone should feel the need to hide because we are all unique—everything about us, our bodies and our personalities, make us who we are. The hand underneath the man’s hand in the painting is trying to reassure him that he does not need to hide and cover-up.
