Going into my senior year I was not able to play football because I had knee surgery. With the absence of my sport I felt I needed some type of hobby or anything to look forward to. One night while staying up painting I noticed how much I enjoyed creating something out of nothing. Painting would often be what I would most look forward to throughout the day. Staying up all night and watching cartoons with a bag of candy while painting is why I love art.

I chose to paint a family portrait using a picture we took after my parents got married. I chose to paint this picture because when looking at the reference I noticed the progression through life of each member of my family. Each character has had their own unique course of events to get to this stage in their lives. This is the portrayal of the continuous progression of six different stories yet to reach its peak. An artistic choice I made was to leave out the facial features because I am captivated by how I can recognize who is who without very distinct details. Somebody looking at the portrait can fill the characters face with family of their own and recognize growth in members of their family.
