When I registered for art class sophomore year, I would have never expected to open up a side of creativity that I never knew I had. When I see a beautiful sunset or stare into the deep sea, I get crowded with emotions that I can never seem to put into words. For me, painting and attempting to recreate these scenes is the only way to capture the way it makes me feel. I strive to capture all the positivity that I can. Painting sunsets and beautiful scenery seems to balance my state of mind and put me in an uplifting mood.
Because of the flow and blend of wet colors, I prefer to use acrylic paint. I like to paint on wood boards, because the paint adheres well land responds more true to my brush strokes. I enjoy working wet into wet as this allows the clouds to form and sway with the breeze and the sunset colors to create a peaceful tone. This makes me better at painting what I have pictured in my head.
In this painting, I wanted to show not only the beautiful landscape of 17 mile drive, but also the positive things you can take away from it. The rough choppy waves represent all of the anxieties and hardships that challenge us in life. But the painting isn’t focused on the waves. It’s focused on the beautiful sunset you see beyond the waves. To me, a beautiful sunset, brings a perfect close to the day!
